Heater Hose size on 93 ranger 3.0

My son has a 93 ranger 3.0 liter w/o AC. We were going to replace both heater hoses, but discovered that the two hoses are different sizes. The hose that comes off of the Thermostat housing?(I think) looks like a 1" hose that reduces to 5/8". The hose that is on the truck now looks like somebody had inserted a smaller hose into the larger hose and clamped them together.

My question is, how was the original hose installed? Is it a specially ordered hose with a reducer? I would like to replace the hose with the original application.

both hoses have larger mouths near the engine one only marginally bigger and the other is around 3/4
they cost around #13 at an autoparts place. look for them online
at autozone.com
or napaonline.com
