If you have money to burn, see a Tool truck guy for a good wrench set. Maybe 60 bucks plus. If you get one at an autoparts store, you are likely to get a stamped metal tool, with rounded edges, and soft metal. I paid 30 bucks for the set and the wrench spread apart as I tried to get a very tight( I mean this thing was tight!) fan clutch nut off my pump.
Basically there are two tools for the job: one tool is an open end wrench that will hold onto the 4 bolts that hold the pulley to the water pump shaft. The other wrench goes over the fan clutch nut.
Rent one at autozone or PepBoys, then return it undamaged, for no charge( you get your money back).
Wear gloves when using this tool, you are likely to bust a knuckle, get cut on the fan, or ruin your silky smooth skin.
My local Pep Boys had a nice heavy duty set, but I couldn't afford 89 dollars, I don't rent tools either, I always try to keep the tools I need to use.
P.S. if you have the fan clutch out, you should clean the thermostat spring, sometimes they get clooged with grease and dirt.
