CB: What is S/RF Meter

I just got a CB, and I don't know what everything is. What is the S/RF meter for? Is that a built in SWR meter? I'm looking for a way to tune my radio and not have to pay for it to be done, and if I can just tune it on the fly with this, that would be great. I have a Uniden 68XL

I believe it is. My old Cobra 29ltd classic had one. If I am remembering right you want a number very very close to one.

S-RF meter is a signal strenthg meter, on transmit it shows the strength of the outgoing signal, on recieve the strength of the incoming signal or the background noise if no incoming signal.

You have to go to the 76 series Unidens to get an SWR meter.

The SWR meter is for checking antenna match and will not help with "tuning" your radio. If you are ever south of Columbus, Ohio, there is a shop at exit 65 on the west side of the interstate called Roadrunner CB Shop that set up my PC66 Uniden ten years ago and folks still think I am running a linear.

Yes,the S/RF meter is for reading the signal strength. As said above, when you key up,it shows what you're putting out and then when someone in your range starts talking on that certain channel,it measures the strength of their incoming signal. The higher their signal is on the meter, the closer they are to you.

I have a buddy with a CB about 2 miles down the road from me pumping the standard 4 watts and he blows the meter out of my CB.I'm still thinking about turning my CB up a few watts though .

The SWR meter is for tuning your antenna. You'll need to tune your antenna at least. Those meters can be bought at Radio Shack for around $20.

Mr. Bunggo, Your new radio is allready "tuned". the receiver is set to max sensitivity and the transmitting final is designed to deliver no more than 4 watts into a 50 ohm load (your antenna if it's efficiant) (most are 20 to 30 ohms when measured). Any additional power out that some super tuning tech is going to give is going to be splattered all over the band. You can make a greater effect on your signal by choosing the longest antenna possible and mounting it as high off the ground as you can. 35 years repairing CBs and building/ installing ham radios in mobiles does teach you a few things.

as long as you antenna is matched with a swr meter and you can get that antenna as long as you can. then your fine and 4 watts is great for a mobile cb. there lots of fun but you do need to pay attention to your antenna!
