99 F250 SD 4X4 Brake shudder
I just had new tires put on, 265x75xR16 4 ply. The front end was aligned and the ride is pretty good. The truck has 60K miles and is new to me. I was experiencing a shudder under braking. I had all four rotors turned and replaced all of the pads and the shudder is very, VERY bad even under light braking.
I then disconnected each fuse related to the ABS on at a time with zero change. I have no warrantee and would like some help isolating the problem. The bushings all appear to be in good condition and the tie rod ends and ball joints have no play in them whatsoever.

Is the shudder worse now than it was before you had the brake work done?If it is the wheels may have been imoproperly tightened and in the process warped the rotors. When tightening wheels you must tighten them in about four stages, not max torque all at once, and in a staggered pattern.

You might want to check your wheel bearings (shake the tire when off the ground, if it shakes vertically -one hand up and the other down- you found out your problem).
Depending on how your calipers are mounted, consider cleaning and lubing them. By lubing them, I mean the thingys they slide on. You should be able to move it by hand (after having freed -or better yet, removed- the pads).
I also had a similar problem on my Ranger...thought the car would fall apart. But I had a dented/warped/worn rotor, seized caliper (the thing I'm talking about right above) and finished wheel bearings.
Once I changed all that....it brakes incredibly good.

Forgot to ask...
Is it just the pedal pulsating, or really does it feel like you are caught in a 15 000 richter scale earthquake each time you gently come to a stop? I've had both #1 and #2, so I think my descriptions are pretty much right on the money
From what you said, sounds like #2 is right...but just want to be sure
When you got your "new" rotors and pads, I hope you broke them in...did you? You know, avoiding braking gently for a long period of time, keeping the temp cool. If you didn't, you might have caused unequal pad deposits on the rotor, causing a bad pedal pulsation, that COULD translate to the car shaking if it's bad enough. Hey, if you have a set of rotors to waste (and I really mean waste!), do this. At highway speed or more, very gently press the brakes, just enough to barely slow you down...the pads will get darn hot, melt randomly onto the rotors, and cause a bad shake until you come to a stop. But again, I'm not kidding, if you do this, your rotors are done, as well as your glazed pads. Don't do it "to see if I'm right". I am. But maybe you recognize a driving habit...
Just giving away ideas...

Well, the problem is solved. Seems that the shop that I had turn my rotors didn't do a very good job on the back rotors. They apperently got the rotors on their machine cockeyed and basically machined them warped. The rear rotors were re-turned and the brake shudder is gone. I'm happy even though it cost me a few more bucks. Thanks for the input.
