Towing Capacity with f-150 w/ 5.0 v8 EFI

What is towing capacity for a Ford F-150 1993 with a 5.0 EFI v8 engine?

Would 7000lbs cause any trouble for the truck?

Thanks for your responses.

It depends on your rear end gearing and transmission. It also depends on whether you have a towing package.

Even under ideal circumstances, 7000 lbs is at the upper limit for a half ton truck. If you plan to regularly tow that much weight, you'd be best off getting a bigger truck.

I love these tires to death. They have saved my butt many times over. The traction in the rain can only be beaten by the traction in the snow and mud.

These are likely the only tires I will ever buy for a truck - they're that good.

Lets not hi-jack the man's thread here....back to towing please..I don't suggest that much weight. I tow a 2000-2500lbs snowmobile trailer as well as a 4000lb boat...with a bunch of gear and tools and its quite a bit of weight for the truck to carry. If you're going to be towing that often I highly suggest an F-350. If once in awhile..an F-250 will do well.

Cool

I have a '94 F150 with a 5.0 and AODE automatic transmission, with factory tow package, and 355.1 gears, my manual and dealer brochure say 6800lbs max trailer weight, so my suggestion would be IF, and I repeat IF you have a class 3 or 4 hitch on your truck and you are going to only tow 7000lbs and YOU have the tow package as well you should be OK for a time or two, but not on a regular baises, I would never expect MY F150 to pull 6800lbs on a regular baises.
Its always better to have too much truck than not enough!

MustangGT221 and supercab Thanks for useful info. I just purchased the truck. It has towing package. Previous owner claims he has hauled a 6600lbs boat twice a year in the past. Tranny is the original. He says he has not seen any effect on the engine after hauling the boat. But just in case I want to show it to a Ford dealer. Do you think they will be able to discover any possible problems, if any?

I'm sure the truck is fine , 6600 lbs wont hurt a Ford truck . I pull more weight then that several times a year with no problems at all with my 5.0 EFI engine and 3.73's in the back.

You are not going to hurt the engine. That automatic tranny is the weak link. An external oil cooler is a must if you are towing at or near the max.

Seems like my '88 F150 struggles with only a single quad in the back....
