262 I-6 Oil Pan, Timing & Valve Cover?
F.T.E.
I am in need of the above stated & these Do Not Interchange w/ Anything else, I already checked in the latest Hollander's Vol. III.
Anyone have an idea where to start looking?
The local Truck Wreckers look at me as if I've gone daft when I've asked them about locating these parts.

So, am I understanding you correctly that you need help locating an engine parts donor truck that is a 1961 to 1964 Tilt Cab with a 262 - 6 cylinder engine, and nothing else will work? Or did I get confused? And If I understand you correctly, I understand why they look at you that way when you ask for these parts, but I will do my best to help you find them... but don't get your hopes up.
If nothing else, at least you have made me feel better about how easy it was to find my 1964 custom cab trim!

Thank'ee kindly, I can use all the help I can get.
Not much to tell though.
The '58 M-100 was my Great Uncles ranch truck for 40 years & this was the engine that was in it when Father inherited it a six years ago.
But when I swapped Father my '58 F-350 for it I did not know at the time that it was a 262 & was conned into putting a piece of garbage (the crankcase is over pressureizing, goes through 2 & 1/2 Qts of oil a week w/o leaving a puddle & no blue smoke coming out the exhaust pipe), a supposedly performance built 223 in its place. Which turns out to be out of a '56.
So now I have found a source for 61-64, 262 I-6 factory rebuilt Long Blocks & will need these parts in order to complete it once I can finally purchase one to put back in my M-100.

Col Flashman, I'm really curious, did I understand what your are searching for correctly? That does sound really like a rare bird to restore. Please tell us more. I'd love to help you find what you need.

According to Hollander's Interchange one out of a Tilt Cab wont work, different oil pan, though timing & valve cover should work. The Oil Pan would need to be out of a '61-'64 Ford/Mercury F/M-250 or F/M-350 truck. And if has an Auto Tranny in it, I could use the Linkage as well, mines shot.
Thank'ee for contacting me.

I think I got it now.... I had not seen the non-tilt version the first time I glanced, but now that I pulled the book out again... You must be looking for an Oil Pan Number 26 - C1TE6675B, and the other parts from the same engine. In the next week or two I am scheduled to go to visit a nearby location that has a few trucks that I can check and who knows....maybe I will find what you need. I'll let you know what I find.

How can you identify a 262 from a 223? I was told that I had a 262 in my '62 F-100. originally spec forest service truck. It runs, but needs a carb overhaul and fresh gas, at a minimum, I was suprised it started an ran okay, as it has been in storage since 1988. Will hopefully replace with a EFI 5.0 . Thanks for any help.

Well I would go by the 4th character of the "warranty number" located on the door ID plate. I can't confirm if the 1962 codes are the same as the 1964 codes, but the 1964 codes for a 262 engine would be a "B". So, if you were told you have a 262, and it looks like it may be a 262 and you are planning on changing your engine and your "vin" or "warranty number" starts out with "F10B" or "F25B" I would bet Col Flashman wants to talk to you about your old engine really bad!

If it is indeed a 262, How about sending that block my way when you pull it.
The Ford 262 c.i. I-6 has several design features different from the 223 engine.
These include;
0) Re-enforcing Ribs added to the block, adding 20 lbs. These run horizantally along the same lines as the Freeze Plugs, as well as in between them, the same Ribs appear on the oppisit side of the block, another set are above these where the block starts to flare out.
1) Dual Primary Drive Belts from the Crankshaft to the Water Pump & Generator
2) Water Heated Spacer at the base of the Carberator to prevent icing. These solid metal lines are quite Noticable, As they run from the Top of the Water Pump back to the carberator & back again
3) Fuel Pump mounted on the Front Cover. Carter Fuel Pump
4) Oil Fill Spout & Breathe Cap on Valve Cover Mounted Next to the Carberator
5) Oil Pan Dip Stick, Sticks Prominently Up Out Past the Manifolds
6) A Forged, rather than a cast, Crankshaft
7) A Positive Crankcase Ventilation System
8) 1 Qt. Oil Bath Air Cleaner
9) Timing Gears instead of the usual timing Chain used in LT's

Col Flashman, methinks I have a 223, as the ID plate says F10JR. The oil fill is at the front of the valve cover, and the feul pump is mid pass side mouted, Sorry if I got your hopes up. This engine does have a humoungous generater and two belts, and what I would guess is a PVC setup, kinda weird canister like thing. No carb heating that I can see. Only ribs run vertically through centerline of freez plugs. Thought I'd found a home for the old mill, oh well.
