Thats what i thought, but then agian thats a 4.5L diesel engine or something around that size is what many company's like cat and john deere use in there equipment so with alot of changes but with that size you could make a small good engine but i am not sure whats happening now. Please post any info you have on this new engine.

Yes i think in 5 or 10 years there will be diesels in all 1/2 ton pickups. Diesels have gotten very popluar since the late 80's and I think putting smaller diesels in 1/2 tons will boost sales up for ford, gm and dodge. Many people like the diesels but dont need a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. A 1/2 ton diesel would make these people happy and have sales boosting up.

I have a friend who works at Phillips 66. He is a chemical engineer and is pretty high up in the company. He keeps telling me that diesel is the way of the future. Much better mpg, lower emmissions, etc. I figure he knows more about that stuff than I do. I would also like to see a baby diesel, or even a medium sized diesel in 1/2 tons and even in SUV's. I think that would be great.

If they could make a baby diesel that was about 4.0L but had the same specific output as the 6.0, it should make over 200 hp and around 400 ft.lbs. of torque. That would be pretty sweet in a 1/2 ton or SUV, I think. Especially if they put it in the small vehicles like the Explorer or Ranger. Surely they could get well over 20 mpg out of it and it would be a hoss.

I think there has been a misunderstanding here, I'm not aware of a 4.5L Cummins engine (present or in the works). I believe you saw someone refer to the new 2004 1/2 5.9L that will be hitting dealerships in a couple weeks. Someone abbrevieated 2004 1/2 as 04.5 and you mistook it as 4.5L.
Hope that clears it up, but I would like to see smaller displacement diesels in 1/2 ton trucks.
