Anyone ever attempted this conversion or know of another trans with a similar gearin setup. I would like to use the early GM 4500 because of it's 6.34 first gear

Did I understand your question correctly?

You want to put a General Motors Transmission into a Ford F-150?

I personally don't think it can be or should be attempted.

It's not a GM transmission per se. It's a New Venture transmission, and New Ventures were used in Fords before. That's a 6 speed transmission, correct? I've heard of it being done, but I have no idea where they got a bellhousing from or anything like that.

NV 4500

That topic came up in a discussion with my local transmission guy who works on everything. From what he said they are a good swap, require an available adapter for your bell housing to match your engine bolt pattern. I believe they are even stronger than the ZF. Not sure about any transfer case issues. He didn't say anything about the slave being internal or external but I don't believe that is a problem. And then the driveshaft may have to be shortened or lengthened due to the adapter. The best part of all is the NV 4500 was used in many GM and Dodge vehicles over the years so there are alot more available as compared to the ZF for example. My awsome wife said go with a new transmission over used or remain. So I called the local Ford guy and was suprised that you cannot by a new ZF through Ford. From what I hear the ZF is almost plug and play.

He is searching for a ZF for me now. Plan "B" would be for the NV 4500. The required adapter and drive shaft mod would just add more $$$ to the swap. There is a Bronco website that has a long list of desirable transmission swaps. The NV 4500 article is there. Good information.

Heres a link to the site that has some good stuff on trans swaps.

If you want to find a trans then try the link below. I found a couple of ZF trans in my state for sale. Of course I got lucky and found one local for my bronco for $90.
