Question Chip for an rv cam

I have an '89 Ford Bronco with a 351w. This is a new engine. I have headers etc... I was told by a dealer to add an rv cam for increased power. My thoughts were to add flat-tops 10.1 compression and not add the cam. The computer is stock. I did not have a lot of money. I have since lost power. The specs for the cam are as follows:

adv. dur. lift rpm range
254/262 477/493 1200-5200

I am assuming that the loss of power is because the computer does not know what to do to adjust everything.

I understand that there are different stage chips. Maybe even custom programmed chips. Does anyone have any ideas?

Very truly,

Dave

Yes, a chip can help, provided there isn't a problem with the engine rebuild (fuel or timing) that needs to be corrected. What's the base timing?
