Head's Up ! Computer related question here .....

First a couple questions:

What operating system are you running? Do you install any new software when this happens? Is it only a certain type of file that changes to a certain icon?(I.E. Word docs, pictures etc), or do all files no matter what kind have different icons?

In the folder my documents I have various type files:
Jpg,Gif,Word,Quicken,Zip,Internet, etc.

Each of these when installed/saved showed a NORMAL icon depicting what kind of file they are.
Once in a while they will change.
They will change into an Icon that I don't recognize, stay that way for a while then change again .

Right now they are normal, I'll update when they change again.

Have you downloaded a new virus signature file from your software company? New Viri come out daily, and the anti-virus companies are anywhere from a couple of days to a couple weeks behind the whackos.

Another possibility is that you have two similar programs that both want to be the primary program when editing a particular type of file. Every time you go between those programs, they change the way icons for the data files are displayed. Netscape & Internet Explorer will do that to many files if you use both.

Good Luck. Let us know what you find out.

This is what I thought Might be the program considering the amount of imaging programs I have on my puter

I only run IE 6 ,as there were problems using Netscape on this site before

You say that you run several different photo editting software packages, I think this is why your magical Icon's of the sun are changing. If you associate then unassociate these programs the icons that they were assocaited with will change as to the program that they are associated for. I use Fugifilm Digital, Polaroid PhotoMax, Adobe PhotoDeluxe 6.0, Ulead Photo 6.0, Microsoft Picture IT 2002, and a few others.

Each program will assoicate with JPG TIF WWM FIL GIF VIC VVC and other file types. If I tell one program to associate all types of picture files that program then the icon's for the different file types will change over to the icon for that program. Some of these programs, Adobe for example, also cross interface with other programs such as MS Word. When you have a word document with a picture saved in it Adobe will show still yet another type of icon for that word document. Pitcute It and Ulead both will interface with IE6, and leave yet another icon to show this happening.
