Hey Carl want to meet me in Detroit ???
During the car show/swapmeet season maybe. Right now Im concentrating on staying warm!
The 337 is the predecessor of the 317 Tom. About 800 Lbs of flathead. Pretty much the same as the 49-51 Lincoln with the primary difference being solid lifters and matching cam.
Used in the F7/F8.
Ive been going crosseyed reading thru my old Hollanders.
The Ford Y and the 302/332 shared the same bellhousing when used with the Transmatic tranny.
But the Big Trucks and the up to F600 didnt appear to share any manual boxes and the 317 wasnt mentioned since it was obsolete by then.
So reading between the lines a Ford Y has the same block pattern as the 317-368 !
Makes sense since Ive seen the 341/368 dealer installed in 55-57 F350 wreckers when I was a kid.
Grab a Y bell and give it a shot, they should be all over out that way.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2467266939 Might be a little out of your way, but he sounds like he needs them gone. A feller on HAMB has delt good business with him before. Just a thought, -4speed

Like all good projects there is never enough time for everything you want to do. I now have several 368 blocks. I have spent several hours sonic testing the blocks all over every inch of them. I also have measured all the bolt hole patterns, and now have a list of dimensions so I can make parts for it as I need them. After looking at everything I choose to build a 455 inch (4.125"x4.25") engine to start with, I can do it for very little cost with off the shelf parts and a offset ground crank. I'm also still working on the new intake project for this engine. When I have everything figured out and assembled. I'll post some photos and information about what I've learned. Tom

Tom, you have captured my interest. I have been studying this topic for a week or so now, and one thing about me is that i keep my mouth shut if i don't know what i'm talking about, but does anyone have a picture of the back of a 383 Y without the flywheel for me to see, as i have been silently studying this, if what i am thinking is correct is wrong i haven't a clue is what i'm saying, but anyway, any pictures of when and if you go see those microfilms, may i please see them Tom??? This means alot to me!!.....Janet
PS... iwas afraid of this, but Tom i think your madness is rubbing on me, darned i shouldn't have came in here!!! Will others in here, and i think it's really worth it too!! No matter what information you have, just answer Tom starting from his origianl question, don't worry if it sounds stupid, because im once again going to read and study everything thats been said so far, answers??? If what im thinking is right, i may just be building another car shortly

Nope, i better not try it... i promised myself...no more projects, my health can't handle it and just fix what i have...But looking at the pictures would be new and fun.So yes i would love to see pictures of this, but i was coniving getting a 317 or 368 and boring it (knowing parts are hard to find on the licoln Y) and making a really mean Yblock car, and doing yet another complete body work and the max on a 54 Ford station wagon at a classics yard in Austin Hutto Texas area , and i've done this type thing before very good but never a lincoln Y, but what is someone that's getting as tired as i am going to do with it??..That and i had some more ideas, as i have engeering skills from Hydril and i know if Tom can sonic test and measure the way he does, he must be an engeener, i'm easily backing out now, but Tom post us pictures please..Janet
