Lowering a f100

I wonder what is the best way to lower my 1960 f100? Not the easiest, the best way?

What do you mean the best way? There's so many ways of doing it. Different springs/spindles, getting new straight axle, different leafs, hydraulics, air bags....etc

I want to lower it 5 to 6 inches, but i want to keep it "original". I Know i can use a front end of a aspen, hydraulics and so on, but i want to keep the suspension in an old style!

Any of the straight axle gang want to take this one? They always get suspicious when the IFS characters here tell them 6 inches of drop causes huge compromise in drivability with a stock suspension. You'll have "issues", and lots of them. Poor ride, handling, geometry, spring wrap when braking.

Best way tp drop with a S.A. is a drop axle, and the correct tie rod ends etc for the mod. But that won't get you six.

It is common to get about 3 inches from a drop axle. Then you can experiment around with minor (reversible) mods like pulling a leaf from the pack etc. Until you find the line where you say, "my truck now sucks to drive". Then just reverse the last baby step you took that screwed up your truck. Or you can try soming radical like the latest mono leaf spring. You'll be sitting in Alaska with a 400 spring you hate. Forced to try to make it work. Drop axle is time tested. The grief cause by one are minor compared to screwing up your springs.

Hello gang,

I am going for removing some leaf springs and still drive mines...that is how i got it and i like the ride but it is a little bit bumpy BUT....i am trying my options...keeping stock...so the straight axle must stay....no clipping here...

Right on! If you want a new car...go get one! These are 40, 50 year old trucks.

It's all in what you prefer, but I wanted a 45 year old pickup for the whole experience....

"Ya gotta drive 'em"! Uh oh, I feel a soapbox sliding under my feet....I'll stop here.
