I have a 1997 F-250 HD Crew Cab 4x4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke/automatic transmission. It already has a gooseneck hitch in it; I was wondering how heavy of a load I can pull with this truck? I am looking at 4-horse gooseneck trailers and am trying to decide between a steel or an aluminum trailer. I have pulled a Keifer Built aluminum 4-horse with it and had no problems, I just wanted to know what the capacity of my truck is.

i know theres a guy on here that has a book about the heavy duty and superduty trucks and it has all the combos and ratings listed in it. he replied to one of my posts a while back. ill see if i can find his name for you.

The 1997 Ford towing guide lists the following.

7.3l, auto, 3.55 =GCWR 16,000lbs, max tow 9,500lbs
7.3l, auto, 4.10 =GCWR 20,000lbs, max tow 13,500lbs
Those numbers are for 5th wheel/gooseneck towing.

Pull trailers are the same except max tow is 10,000lbs.

 

Another good place to check the tow ratings is at www.RVnet.com. They have a lot of information on towing and such that can really help new towers and users alike.
