LOUD, strange clicking/rattleing noise coming from under my truck.

Its a very loud, very strange noise. It doesn't click in the morning or after a long time sitting, its just when it warms up, that it will click. It also seems to click in rythm with the tire rotations. As I start rolling faster and faster, it starts clicking faster and faster, and get this, as soon as ANY brake pressure is applied, it stops (i can drive around town with the brake pedale slightly depressed and it makes no noise). At this point it would seem like the brakes, but heres where i get lost, i've gone over my brakes a half dozen times and haven't seen anything that would be making this noise! I've replaced the front disks, pads and calipers (coincedence), and i've also replaced the star adjusters, adjusting cables, and new shoes on the rear drums( the drums themselves were still good). Also the fact that you can here it rattle when i hit a bump. Theres only a few things I can think of, and thats the rear end (very worn, ready for a rebuild) or a warped drum. Before i waste anymore money, I hope someone else could give me some help

Probably a malfunctioning ABS if your truck got one.

Get your drums turned and see if they are warped. I had kinda the same problem. one of my drums were warped and slightly rubbing against the brake in one area making a anoying sound. got new drumes and good to go with out heads turning my way.

Tell me more about what I would look for if my ABS is bad? I doubt it is working, I can lock up my rear wheels pretty easily if I try. Also, would a warped drum cuase my brake pedal to pulse? Or would the shoes just rock back and forth in the drum? Thanx for the ideas.

You might want to put the front of the truck on a jackstand and try to turn the tires and see if you hear that clicking noise.

You could also try to remove the ABS wheel speed sensor on each wheel and see if that clicking noise goes away.

I have ABS one the rear only. Also, I listened really carefully to it today, and it seemed to be coming from around the center of the cab this is really blowing my mind.....

Worn slider pins on the front disk brakes will cause the caliper to move excessively. when there is no brake pressure applied, the pads will sometimes click or rattle. all rotors have runout to some degree. The pads will rub on the high spot on the rotor and click in tune to the rotation of the wheel. The noise will stop to the slightest pressure applied to the brake.

Two pennies.

I've been wondering this, what is up with the "ABS" on these years, because my brakes will lock up without a problem, and yet I have an anti-lock brakes light on my dash.... Also, is this sound really that loud, I have a clicking/rattling comming from undernearth but I'm fairly sure it's my tranny gears. Is it an auto or manual?

did you make sure to readjust your parking brakes ? sounds like they are out of adjust ment and when the brakes heat up, they are contacting it. then as you apply brakes, it takes away noise because everything tightens up. out of round drums would sorta pulse like warped rotors. and you should check for lateral runout on front rotors if you feel a normal pulse and you changed all the front components.
