stock turbo rebuild (anything else!)

I just ordered the stock 7.3 powerstroke turbo rebuild kit from Clay and was wondering if I am rebuilding it should I upgrade anything. My truck is stock and really dont want to spend a bunch of money on upgrades. But already having the turbo out and rebuilding it,does it make sence to upgrade.and what advantage will i get. Thanks

What year truck? Some guys install the E99 wheel on the later turbos to deal with surge. Whats your intake wheel look like? If you need to rebuild the turbo I would replace the wheel no matter which one you use.

I try to buy all my parts from Clay @ RiffraffDiesle. He has what you need, great guy and family man, prices are hard to beat also. He is a sponsor on here and just great to deal with.

The E99/'wicked wheel' moves less air than a stock compressor wheel. This can help with turbo surge, but it is unlikely you'd have this on a 'stock' truck.

You can use VHT 'flame proof' on the exhaust housing for a DIY ceramic coating. We've used this on up-pipes too. I'm not sure it makes as big of a performance difference as some flashy racing stickers, but it makes under the hood look good!

Available at your favorite autoparts:
VHT FlameProof™ Coating

FWIW, the up-pipes on my 240k mile Excursion didn't leak - until I swapped turbos... I might be tempted to replace the stock up-pipes and donuts with new ones.

Also, this is a good time to do the $0.50 mod if ya haven't yet.
