I have a 96 PSD 2wd auto with 276,000 miles recently replaced the CPS and havent had any problems until today. Truck starts and idles just fine when I put it in drive no clunk like its going into gear this happens in both drive and reverse then when I step on the gas the check engine light comes on and the truck just idles. I put the truck into park and the gas pedal seems to work just fine the check engine light goes off, I step on the pedal and it rev's up... put it back into gear and it goes nowhere. Did the drive / park and rev it for a few minutes and it seems to work ok. I have ordered a code reader so I can pull the codes. Does anybody have any ideas right now the dealed say they think it's the accelerator pedal position sensor and want to charge me $276.00 for the part. I'm looking for any ideas and help. Thanks.

 

I am not sure if this helps or not, but I just bought a new gas pedal (with throttle position sensor included) for my 99 psd. I purchased it from the dealer, and it was only $130.00 I think the dealer is ripping you off at any more than that. I am a little concerned that the truck does not seem to go into drive or reverse. My truck would go in to drive or reverse, it just would not accelerate. In any case the pedal assembly is a 5 minute job.

 

Check with a different dealership. They (TPS) are about $128 at the dealership here.
