Heated Seats Question
Hey Guys! I just bought a 2000 EB about a month ago and I love it! Having said that, my heaters on the driver-side seat failed the other day. The light on the switch comes on but there is no heat. I suspect one of the heating elements has failed but need to perform a continuity check to be sure. I went to two of the local Ford dealers yesterday to check prices for the elements. Both told me that the elements can only be purchased by buying replacement padding for the seat (either the seat bottom or backrest side of the heater). They both quoted me about $200 for either foam/pad combination. Does this sound right? I have read a few postings from others regarding heated seat problems and they indicate that the elements alone can be purchased for about $100. Thanks for any help.

Will be using the heated seats on the way to work today. It's 5 degrees!
I still have over a year on my Ford Extended warranty.
I'm not worried my Expy is going up for sale starting this weekend.

I had to go by the dealer today and inquired about the heater elements for my driver side seat in my '98 Expy EB. At first he had a problem looking it up. When he finally did find it, he quoted me $400.00, but that was for the leather, (not the seat) and the pad. He said this is what I would have to purchase to replace the heating element. I'm checking with aniother dealer. It will have to be a cold day in H@#! before I pay that. It NEVER gets that cold here.
If someone has a part number, could you please pass it along? Thanks...

You might want to do a search. I recall a previous thread, possibly a couple of months ago, seems a number of folks have had a defective switch. Due to the switch design the switch light will definitely come on - but the power doesn't make it through to the element. I believe the recommendation was to check for the voltage out with a 12v test light. The switch is a dealer item but about 10% of the cost of replacement element.
Good Luck...

Both times for me it was the element, not the switch. You cannot just buy the element however. You must buy the cusion along with the element. To the best of my knowledge it doesn't matter whether or not you have leather or cloth. The part number I have off of my receipt is this.
F85Z-78632A23-AB
Description: ASM, ELE 375246.
It lists for 177.40 Net of 117.08. I know the person there so I paid 117.08.
Hope this helps.
