interior dome light and center brake light problem
I purchased a 1999 super duty and cannot figure why the interior dome light and central brake light do not work, I have checked bulbs and fuses but have found nothing. The map lights on each side of the dome operate but no dome. Anyone ever experienced a similar problem?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Oct-02 AT 00:45 AM (EST)]Do you have to physically squeeze the entire dome light? I haven't tried that yet. Come to think of it, I did check the bulb in the dome but not the brake. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. Thanks grademan !

Yes, as strange as it sounds I have to physically squeeze the dome light assembly to get it to work. It's probably a real easy fix, I just never have messed with it yet. You see a lot of trucks with the third brake light not working. I've already replaced mine twice and I need another. (60k)

interior dome light and center brake light problem
Howdy,
I had a similar yet different problem, but I think it may be helpful.
In my 99 350 sd the door ajar light kept intermittently sticking causing the dome light to stay on. I pulled a relay out of the fuse box and it took out the dome light and the center cab brake light. The map lights still worked. Eventually I took the drivers door apart and sprayed breakfree on the switches in the door, reinstalled the relay and life is good. Can't remember exactly which relay but as I remember there are only about two that I had in the box.

Hey, thanks for the reply Ed. I bought my truck used and I did have a problem with the door ajar switches hanging up. It's very possible the previous owner may have pulled the relay. I too sprayed the door switches which immediately cured the door ajar problem. Thanks for your input.

Glad to hear it helped. I know it was driving me crazy when I had the problem. Just goes to show you that if us ford truck guys, girls included, stick together we can conquer the WORLD! Next time I go out to the truck I'll see if I can figure out exactly which relay it was and get back to you. Let me know if you find it first. Later.

interior dome light and center brake light problem
Frank,
It was sunny out this morning so I took the cover off and pulled the relay out of the box. It's relay number 1 and the part number is as follows: F578-148192-AA directly below that number is the following 8202A11F. It's the smallest relay in the box. It looks like relay slot 1 and 2 are the same size about 1" x 1/2", relay 2 isn't even present in my box. Then there are about 4 other bigger relays that run along the left side(vertically) under the 1 and 2 slots. When I was in there I pulled it and it did indead take out the interior light. I've got a 99 f350/sd/PSD but I would think the relay is the same. Good luck.
