Headliner help!?

Hey gang, a little help?
I just broke out a new headliner for my 1966 ford f100. Before I install it, I would like to put in a new backing (like the foam that I found glued to the inside of the cab), to keep the condensation from ruining the headliner as well as the new upholstery and carpet! What would you all suggest doing to prevent this from happening?

I appreciate your help as always!!
Matt

What kind of headliner is it? Is it vinyl material with metal rods or a board type with the material glued to it? I would put some kind of sealer (spray on bed liner?) before the headliner goes in, assuming the area is already painted to protect it. Then go to an upholstery supply shop and they should have that foam stuff and you can put it on with contact cement.

Mine was fallin down on my 87 and i went to a shop and picked up the material for like 10 bucks i think. I have the cardboard style backing. The guy told me to remove the old foam and from the card board. because just the fabric was hanging down on me.
Well that was easier said than done... so I didnt take all the foam off and just glued the new headliner that had the fabric and foam together to the old foam. It looks great. the padding there is nice it also cut down on the noise in the cab and the tunes sounded alittle better as well

The hardest part about puttin that headliner in was tryin to get those 3 screws back in for the sun visor... than and a dang monsoon like swept in and i was in the truck sweating try to get this thing to work...lol

I am also putting a new headliner in my 66,if i ever get the rest of the restoration and mods done.(HA HA) I have been wondering myself about what to do with cab before i put mine in. This is what i plan on doing with mine.
First i am going to POR inside roof and back of cab.
Then glue in sound guard material (the stuff that has the foil heat and sound bearier, also used under carpets).
Then i am going to upholstry haedliner with a black vinyl ,with a 1/4 glued on foam backing for extra sound bearier, plus will give it a smoother look then just the plain cardboard.
Hope this helps Mdustan.
