460 thrust plate

460 thrust plate

hi. i need some help. how does the thrust plate for the cam go? they had the 2 slots facing the timing cover and water pump. it looked like this. i have the haynes book and they dont say.which way it goes

slot 1-------> / both slots facing the timing cover and water pump

slot 2-----> /

they had it this way was wondering if its right before i install it and the cam tomorrow and drop the oil pan to clean it. i need surgery monday and the weather man said its gonna rain cats and dogs monday so i gotta get it weather tight before sunday look's like a christmas day project to .

I've run those flipped over when rebuilding an engine (wear side out)to make sure I had a flat surface against the cam. Didn't appear to make any differance or cause any problems.

ok so the flat part goes against the block and the slots face toward the bumper?

just wanna double check and make sure. dont feel like taking it a part again.

The grooves act as a channel for oil to lube the thrust surface. You can run it smooth side inboard but you reduce the life of the thrust plate.

i got one that has grooves on both sides. i installed the cam and intake today waiting for the timing cover to come in 2 weeks there back order
