Steering Box Leak

Steering Box Leak
Hi Guys,
I was changing oil and greasing the steering linkage this morning when I noticed a drip of ATF/Power Steering fluid coming off of the bottom of the steering box. When looking down from the top, I could see fluid puddled on top of the steering gear housing. It looks to be leaking underneath the locknut for the steering gear adjustment screw. Anybody else had this problem? I will be taking it to the dealer as soon as posible but I was just wondering if anybody else has experinced this.
Thanks

Antelope,
Is the PS fluid low? Did you recently top it off? could be something as minor as spillage from overfill or even just a cap that isn't threaded/seated correctly. Also check the line under the PS box and see if it's clamp is loose or if the line has a crack in it. Do this by wiping it clean then immediately keep an eye of it to see if it's leaking. Could you have spilled any other fluid(s) on it (oil, brake fluid, etc... or maybe just "double-dribbled" some PS fluid?). Translation: check out the obvious first!
If it does turn out to be a cap that isn't threading well, either replace the cap or put threading tape on the threads and screw it back on... see if that doesn't give it a better seat.
Good luck with it... doesn't sound TOO serious and I hope it turns out to be something simple.

Thanks for the help guys. I checked all the surrounding lines and they are all dry. I haven't topped off or changed any other fluids other than engine oil as the truck only has 7500 miles. If the leak isn't coming from under the locknut, I think the housing cover may have a porosity hole in it. The dealer can't get me in until Monday. I'll keep you posted.

I had this same problem on my truck a couple of weeks after i got it i noticed leaking from under the locknut, took it to dealer they said the bolts on the plate i think there is 4 of them were loose and would not tighten up because they were the wrong bolts.
Truck was brand new so they fixed it and didnt have much more to say about it. i think they got to long of bolts put in at factory or something.

I took the truck in today and got it back. They said they found a leak at the adjustment nut on the steering box. They tightened the nut and retested and found no leak. I'm wondering if the loose adjustment nut would contribute to my wandering problem? The drive home seemed to handle better, I'll watch it and see. Thanks again.
