Wheel Backspace Question for StrangeRanger

StrangeRanger (and others...),

I saw a post from several months back where you describe the details of the wheels on your '96 F150.

It sounds like you are running 16x8 wheels with about 4 7/16" backspacing.

Do you see any clearance issue with the tires hitting the Radius arm at full wheel lock?

If you went to a larger tire (33x12.5), do you think that the tire would hit the radius arm?

Here's why I ask.

I am planning to put 33x12.5's on my '95 Bronco using a 10" wide wheel. My 31x10.5's on the stock 15x7.5 wheels don't rub now, in fact I have well over an inch of clearance at full lock. I measure the backspace on my stock wheels to be 3.75".

My real question is: Will I be OK with a 4.5" backspace like you say you are running now (which I would get with a 16" wheel), or do I need to stick with a ~3.5" backspace typical of 15" aftermarket wheels?

Can you please confirm your previous observations/estimates and tell me what you think?

Thanks!

I am running the AR Baja 16 x 8 zero offset wheels, which measure 4-7/16" backspace, and 30" tires. There have been absolutely no clearance problems whatsoever. The truck is in storage for the winter so I cannot measure the clearance from my tires to the radius arm at full lock, but I strongly suspect that a 32" tire would either clear completely or only touch lightly and only at full lock.

I have 35/12.5/15s on mine with 15x10 wheels with a 3.62" backspacing. With my skyjacker radius arms (bent a little for added tire clearance when turning) i hit the radius arm at full turn. I also have 32/11.5/15s on the stock 15/7.5" wheels that rub as well.

Hmmm.
Possibly differences in 2WD vs. 4WD steering geometry?
