I want to bring my 351M bord out to a 400 back to life (just to put it on here it a 4 speed granny gear tranny). I need some ideas what i can do to the engine to increase her horsepower and give her the new kick she needs. any ideas?

 

For starters, the 351M and the 400 both share a bore dia. of 4". The difference is made up in the length of the stroke. The 351M has a 3 1/2"
stroke while the 400 has a 4" stroke. The first question is "how deep are your pockets?" If you are planning on rebuilding the engine then get a 400 rotating assembly(crank, rods, and pistons). If it was already rebuilt the go for the add-ons. A good cam, aluminum intake, 600-670cfm 4 barrel carb. and long tube headers will make a world of difference in these engines. If your pockets are really deep, aluminum heads, roller cam and lifters, higher compression pistons from Tim Meyer http://www.tmeyerinc.com/ plus maybe a fuel injection system would make your engine into a real blast to drive. Heck, get with Tim, he can set you up with a 434 stroker kit. As you can see there are a lot of options out there.

 

^^ What he said. What do you intend to do with the motor? Mud Drags, Tow, Drag Race, Street machine, Daily Driver?

 

I want to be able to drive it when i want to if i want to go hunting ill have a reliable truck. If i want to drive it on the interstate or back roads to work i wanna be able to do that, i want it to be able to take a bit of abuse, but not a mud bog truck by any means. If i'm sitting at a red light i wanna be able to lite the tires a bit .
