Electric vs Mechanical Gauges

i'm looking into buying some aftermarket gauges for my 1980 F250 with 351M. It has the stock gauges but I want to see actual numbers. I forget the difference between mechanical and electrical, is electrical used with stock idiot lights and mechanical used with stock gauges?

all the stock gauges are electric, they have a sending unit on the engine and wire connects it to the gauges. mechanical gauges dont use a wire, they use a plastic/brass tubing for oil pressure or a capillary tube for the water temperature. the mechanical gauges are quicker to respond and offer 270* of needle sweep while electric gauges only have 90* of sweep.
