Question 2150 Carb Flooding when warm

HI Folks,

I have a '83 Ford 302 club Wagon with a fresh rebuilt 2150 Motorcraft carb, new fuel filter, electric choke rebuilt

the problem:
Fuel pours out of the upper carburetor body vent holes and into the carb throat and is flooding the engine.

I've replaced the float and adjusted it and it works great for a day or two then starts flooding again. I have not found any dirt in the fuel bowl or jammed under the needle valve or on the needle seat.

The problem shows again after I have drove the van for a long time. 30-45 minutes of driving at freeway speeds and it starts flooding out at speed and will die as I get off the freeway

The van is drivable for a short bit when dead cold (40-50 degree weather around here right now) so I can get home when it conks out after I let it set for a while.

Any Ideas?
excessive fuel pressure? Vacume at fuel bowl vent valve on vapor recovery system? Bad Needle valve / valve seat? shop put in wrong rebuild kit?

Thanks in Advance

Hi and welcome to FTE

I would try another needle and seat. It may not be seating off right. Check your fuel pressure too. It should be 4 to 6psi much more than 6 and it will blow the needle off of the seat.

Check the float pivot pin clip. A lot of people don't get it right the first time they rebuild a Motorcraft 2150 carb.

This thread has more explanation and a pic:

Hi Folks,

I've got the problem fixed! I bought a rebuild kit from Napa Auto Parts and replaced the needle and seat the float pivot pin clip and the shield. The needle seat shield was missing from my carb.
I also replaced the fuel filter and the gasket that goes between the carb horn and the main body of the carb.

No more flooding problems. yea!
