2v intake on "390"

hey everyone,
i got a very goof offer on 390 rebuildable motor, but the gentleman says its a mercury(thats what the valve covers say) and has a 2v intake, the engine is disassembled so the intake may just be what he has for extra parts to go with it im not 100%, but would this engine have came out with a 2v on it?
the extent of my knowledge is with trucks not cars and the 2v intake tells me it could be a 360.

thanks!

The 360 was a truck-only engine. There was a 352 used in cars, as well as 67-older trucks. 352 has a 4.00 standard bore, while the 390 was 4.050 standard.
There was a 2V 390 used in cars, so it could very well be a Mercury 390. The 2V engine had a bit lower CR than the 4V version, but it was still in the 9.5:1 range.

76, The 390 is a Ford engine, the Mercury is a Ford car that ran Ford engines with Mercury on the valve covers.

As long as the block is good, you can rebuild it, put a 2 or 4 barrel intake on it, with the Merk valve covers or any of several other choices.

Figure how you want it & build it.

The holes and pistons are not important since you will be reboring but if the crank and rods are from a 352, that would be an expensive mistake. Like if the rods are C1AE-A they are from a 352.

To answer the actual question, yes 390s did actually come with 2-barrels from the factory

I do recall seeing 2bbl 390s listed in my Motor's Truck manual... doesn't mean much, but they did exist at least in cars.

There were Mercury 390-2V carburetors in C6MF-A, C-MF-D, C8AF-AN and C9MF-A versions for premium fuel engines. The C9 (and maybe the C8) was a 351 CFM.

In fact I think beginning in 1967-68, 390s with 2V dominated over 4V.

The merc 390 2 bbl motors were also built with 4 bbl pistons and a 10+ to 1 comp ratio. The 68 Merc I had was one of these, only part different was the 2bbl intake as opposed to a 4 bbl engine of the same year.

In those days, insurance rates on a 4bbl car could be higher than a 2bbl.

And a 4 speed? Surcharge city.
