Ranger, Tachometer

Hey all, My kid has a 99 Ranger Sport with the 2.5 dual coil ignition 2 plugs per cylinder and he would like to put in a tach. We hooked it up once and it only read 300 rpm's at an idle, and we know that can't be right, can any one help? Thanks Warren

You probably need to calibrate the tach.Hopefully you didn't throw the instructions away.It should tell you in there how to go about it.I put a Sunpro tach on my 1992 Ranger with it's DIS 2.3L and it works fine.It did the same thing until we calibrated it.There were switches in the back side of my tach that you had to flip for it to work right. What kind of tach do you have?

Hope this helps.
