problem with power door locks
#1
Sorry about being off the subject a little but my power door locks had a broken plastic clip that hooked into the linkage of the door lock button. I found a new clip at Advanced Auto, installed it and now it locks like it's supposed to. But there's a problem, you cannot use the key from the outside to unlock it. It won't turn at all. This is on a 86 BII. Any ideas?

im not sure about that .i have not been that far inside the door yet. the guy that i bought it from had and he said that it was the lock actuator. but when i got it i could not lock the d/s door at all. it ended up being the part that catches the striker bolt. so now i can only lock/unlock it w/the key. sorry that i couldn't help!

On my '87 I had the same problem. Powerlock worked, but the key wouldn't turn. Cause was the internals of the powerlock actuator were failing. The motor worked fine. But the internals wouldn't allow manual operation. ie: Key operation.
Test: Disconnect the actuator rod from the locking mech. Does the key then work?
Note: My actuator motor worked for another 2 years after the key wouldn't. I then replaced the actuator. Now both work.

Ken that makes since. I found the actuator laying on the bottom of the door when I got the BII. It was rusty but worked. I'll see about getting a new actuator. An idea here is to silicone the cracks and crevices on all electrical type motors that weather the elements. Those actuators and the Shift motor for the transfer case are two good candidates for sealing them against the weather.
