4wd lights flashing! Power Windows not working! G.E.M. or what???
I just aquired a '96 Explorer XLT with a few bugs. Hoping someone can give me some help. Like most of the people on this site, I don't have a lot of trust in my dealer.
1. My 4wd lights flash 6 times every couple minutes, and the system is not engaging in 4-auto or 4-low. ( It's winter up here and I need this fixed as soon as possible )
2. The power windows do not work. I've checked the fuses and relays - all good. I then checked the controls on the drivers door - no voltage getting to the window controls.
I scanned through the forum and found several related threads. Most point toward the Hall sensors, shift motor, etc.. , but the ones that caught my eye were relating to the G.E.M. module. I know it controls various systems in the vehicle and seeing as how my interior lights are not working either, I'm wondering if this could be my problem.
I bought a Chilton manual for wiring diagrams and troubleshooting assistance, but this manual is a complet waste of money.( it didn't even have a wiring diagram for my model !)
I haven't had the codes read yet. I realize I'll probably have to get the dealer to do that.
There seems to be some pretty wise people on this forum, so any and all assistance or help will be greatly appreciated.
