distributor question

ok I am swapping out my 351W and C4 for a 460 and C6 in my 1967 f100 longbed. my local auto parts store says that the distributor off my 78 351W will work on my 77 460 (sticking with points style ignition for now) they claim and showed me the printout that both distributors share the same part number. my shop says this is not true and that it won't work. I trust the guy at the shop, but I'm just confused. does anyone have any input?

351c, 351m, 400, 429, 460 all use the same distributor and gear. 351w will work if you change the gear.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why the auto part store's system has them all under the same part number (maby somebody goofed in inventory). But I just talked to my shop and they told me the exact same thing you did.
