Shocks

Shocks
I need to replace the shocks all the way around on my 94 ext. Aero. The dealer replaced them when the Van was brand new, and didn't use Ford shocks. I don't know what brand they are, think they are made in Germany. Does anyone have any recommendations? We want a stiff, rather than a soft ride.

I replaced the shocks with KYBs. The rear ones were a bear, the bolts were rusted to the bushings. Had to cut the rubber bushings off so I could Vise grip the metal bushings. I snapped a 15mm socket on the right rear lower bolt. My left arm is all messed up, even with the brace on it hurt like hell. The fronts were easy, but I found the outer Tie Rods were worn out, so I replaced them. Is there any other parts that would tighten up the steering? I checked for excessive play with and without the tires on and everything was tight. The springs are okay, "not broken." I'm comparing the steering feel to my 03 F-150, so what I have maybe as good as it gets!

Aftrmidnite,
If everything checked tight with or without the wheels on, then the only other thing I might suggest would be to check the sway bar links or the upper control arm bushings. Also, you might check the connection of the steering wheel shaft to the rack and pinion steering unit. Make sure it's tightened to recommend specifications and not slipping.
On my 92 3.0L 2wd XLT, I recently had to change the rack and pinion steering because the inner tie rod ends were worn and the seal bad on the passenger side, but you would have noticed this as movement left/right with the tire when you checked for tightness in the steering.
Just a thought.
