Key pad code change Ford Explorers

please close attention to the time frame.
Don't press the numbers in rapid succession.
Wait a second between each # but not more than 5 seconds.
If you miss you need to wait more than 30 seconds for the system to reset it self before you can proceed with the new try.

Key in the factory code
wait a sec and key in the 1/2 key,
wait a sec and key in the first # of the new code,
wait a sec and key in the next # of the new code and so on until you've finished and then the system should lock and unlock the doors.
If this works you will be able to use your new code rembering to key each # within the 5 sec time limit.
After keying in the new code you should hear the driver door unlock and you need to key the 3/4 key within the 5 sec time limit and that should open the rest of the doors and/or then the 5/6 key if it has a function for the rear glass only.

Try that.

2005 Explorer XLT 4x4

SUV only a week old....no keyless numbers in the glove appartment/manual. The manual does say that the codes can be retrieved by looking on the side of the computer moduel. I have not
torn the compartments apart, trying to make sure where the computer
moduel is. Will save having to go to the Ford dealer. Any info? Thanks

2005 Explorer XLT 4x4 Keyless pad number locatiion

Sowaxeman:
You can add the 2005 Explorer to your list. You had perfect instructions.
Followed them to the "T" and got my number. 5 minutes is right on, start to finish. Saved me some $$.
The only thing though, I did not have a beer when I was done.
It was not "high noon" yet, although the wife always tells me that it
is noon "someplace".....
Thanks again, and have some nice summer driving!!

Does anybody know where this code is located? I bought my truck used and dealer wants $92.00 for this!! I am not happy and certainly do not wish to give them this for something they should do for courtesy and that I can likely find myself.

Thanks,

The Sport Trac code is behind the passenger air bag. Pop the defroster vent panel off, and from the outside look through the windshield into the area under the dash pad. You'll see a white box and a label on that box. That label has the 5 digit code printed on it. You'll need a good flashlight.

On your dash against the winshield, pop off the defogger cover panel, lay on your hood and shine a flashlight into the opening on the passenger's side. You will find the module there and the 5 digit code, printed on the right side of the sticker in bold print...hope this helps
This method worked on my friends 01' explorer sport 2dr.Did not have to mess with the air bag!!!! Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!

How big a deal to "pop off" the defroster vent, looks like it is connected with clips?, or something. What tool would I need to use ?.....Mine on a 2005 Sport Trac
looks to be in one piece, I don't want to break it....
.Thanks.........."G"

I popped the defroster vent panel on my 2005 Sport Trac, no white box that I could see. I did see the plastic defroster vent ducting, also blocking any view under the dash pad. I guess I'll keep searching other locations, or just spring for the $68-$75 fee that the dealer wants to hook up his computer ....... "G"

It's not easy to see but according to the 2005 Ford Wiring Manual I just checked it is still located in the same place as the other year Sport Trac's. Here is the view from the passenger seat with the air bag removed.
