Help codes 39-41
#2
Hello, welcome to FTE!
Code 39 = "Transmission Torque Converter clutch not engaging"
That means just what it says ...that the Torque Converter in your transmission is not functioning properly. If this is the case, then you are probably experiencing harder-than-normal shifts and decreased gas mileage. It could also mean that one of the 4 gears in the tranny is not being engaged.
Code 41 = "System lean"
Code 41 has to do with an oxygen sensor (right or rear) indicating too much air and not enough fuel is being burned in the combustion chambers. Check for vacuum leaks (hoses and connections) and make sure your fuel pressure is OK (fuel pump and/or fuel regulator could be suspect if you have low fuel pressure). A dirty fuel system (clogged fuel injectors and/or fuel filter, etc) could also cause a lean condition.
Use these comments as a starting off point in your troubleshooting, but keep an open mind about it, too.
Good luck!

Thanks for Welcoming me to FTE. Heard about FTE, from a member off the SCCOA.
Yes you are right. My shifting is kinda hard. I just installed a rebuilt tranny, and a brand new torque converter. Got them out of a parts car. Should this be something to worry about, because its one BIG job to pull that tranny. Had to do it four times. Maybe I did something wrong. When I installed the tranny.
Well I changed the fuel pump and filter last year. Maybe I will check all my lines. The only problem I know I have. Is a little leak coming from the rad. My engine light comes on, when the car is running for an hour, in rush hour traffic. Also only on a warm day. Above 10 deg.
