Went to another truck pull off
I went to the square after school with some friends and one has a
88' 2wd 350 5 speed 2500 EXTREMLY light duty Chevy . and the other was
a 92 f250 7.3 4x4 E4OD and they chained up GN hitches and the Chevy took the slack out of the chain and I dropped my arm(signal) and the chevy got a 6" start on the ford and then he gased
it and the 6" wasn't enough to engage the chevy's clutch So he had it on the floor and was tring to engage his clutch and them shifted gears-1.2,3 and the tires weren't spinning and at 95mph and in 3rd gear and no tire spinnage for about 75 yards all you could smell is clutch and he got out and said" I had it FlOORED and It would not spin the tires. and the F250 was infact in 2wd an open diff too.
and we went down the street and their was a Z71 stepside he asked if they could pull The guy in the chebby agreed but I drive and he said only 2wd he was telling me do YANK him all over the place SOOOOOOOOOO.................................. I PUNCHED it and dropped the clutch valves wre floating and I got on the brake just a little (still Floored) and got the z71 spinning and I let off the gas a little and reased the brake and NIETHER moved .
Dusty
PS fun still I had my 86 so that was my exuse not to pull
I think thier is time for me to do a clutch job in the next few weeks wouldn't ya say?
What are my chances to drag that 88 chevy, with my 78. Good, bad, ugly all welcome.

Your chances ain't good on pulllin' that Z71 home. I'm not saying that 'cause I'm a Chevy feller, I'm just thinking of pure physics. If he's got a Z71, he's probably got 16" diameter rims and most likey a healthy diameter on the tires.
If you've got a '78 with a 3/4 ton rear...I'll assume you've also got 16" or 16.5" inch rims in the rear. However, if your overall tire diameter is less than that Z71, he'll have more contact patch (area of the tire) on the ground than you will. Or, if you have a similar tire height but fatter tire, you'll have less PSI on the ground.
Lastly, you have a long bed. That little short Chevy is going to transfer weight to the rear far quicker than your longbed, further increasing his traction.
Given that, I think he'll at minimum bring you to a standstill if not drag you across the parking lot/field.
But...that's just a guess. There are a lot of variables. Remember...as soon as you lose traction...you're done. Too much torque too soon (which an I6 is apt to generate quickly down low) will bust the tires loose and that little Chevy will power you around the barn a few times. It all boils down to physics.

I see. Well if the clutch is still toast in the '88, then I'd say no contest, you'll pull him to the other side of the ranch.
Fix the clutch in the '88 and then it could be different. If this is indeed the light duty 2500 (6 lug wheels and not 8 lug) then it probably has a pretty high geared 5 speed. That makes it hard to get the power to the ground slowly without dumping the clutch and risking the chance that the driver would lose traction.
That said, if you too are running a stick shift, then my guess it that who ever can get the clutch engaged without burning it up would win. If you are running an auto...my bets on the '78.
Of course, if the '88 has 8 lug wheels, it's probably got the NP4500 5 speed meaning...it has a great granny. If so...the ol'78 could be in for trouble.
