Ford owns Volvo or a percentage of it, right? They have plenty of nice diesels Ford can use, not to mention Volvo-Penta the marine diesel divison.

Cat or JD would both be great diesels in any application. I thought DCX bought Detroit Diesel afew years ago.

how about a yanmar? or a lugger?

why do we leave these out?
why not a case??

hmm???
answer me that!

also, i feel ford should have stuck with the baby PSD personally. i bet by '06, when it was needed, all the bugs would have been ironed out, and we all know the 6.0L is a bad ****, a baby psd would have been as well.

if FORD had a psd f150, i would own one of those instead of this 250. not to mention, ford could REALLY use the CAFE points a ~25mpg light truck would have gained.

I'd take a Yanmar inline 6 in a SuperDuty any day, my yanmar tractor is 25 years old and all i've ever changed was a water pump. I wish they would have just put those fancy 4 valve heads that are on the 6.0 on the 7.3. No replacement for displacement.

If ford is truly interested in the V6 or I6 light duty diesel program the only two companies that could possibly do it are Cummins and Detroit Diesel. Personally, Cummins builds a better motor than DD. They also have a motor in current production. DD stands to make a lot of money if they were given a contract.

On the other hand, a Volvo diesel is far better for a car or Ranger application. I can't imagine that Volvo could put together a light duty diesel in just two years.

It would be nice to see an in house diesel project.

I thought I had head Ford bought controlling stock in Cummings diesel. They were going to finish out the 10 year contract with Chrysler, but after that Cummings is Ford only.

Did that fall through or did I just hear a rumor/hoax that was just plain wrong?

What's up with that? I thought they bought a part of Cummins to start making their own diesels? I suppose they backed off that for financial reasons just like they backed off owning a big chunk of Harley. Ford was to own controlling stock of Harley by both of their 100th anniveraries, but they quietly changed their mind a year later.

John Deere builds a better engine than Cummins. I'd rather see a John Deere engine in a F-150 than any other. Not only that, but it would scare the fire outta the competition.

Yeah thats all nice and purty, but JD cannot build a motor in two years. The 6.0 in current use has been around for almost 8 now, and look at the introdruction problems it faced (mostly Ford's fault).

It would be nice to see a JD under the hood, but they don't build an economical engine. They don't have a reason too. There aren't any restrictions on farm equipment.

BTW-Detroit Deisel is a company of Chrysler, not GM. It says right on their web site.
