I only use Rotella T, in all my trucks, plus 1 qt of trans fluid in the crankcase. It's an old habit thats never been proven to help or hurt anything. It's changed every 5,000 miles, along with the fuel filter. I change the air filter every 10 to 15 k, depending on where i'm running. Every year I drain the cooling systems and flush them then make sure the additives are the right amounts I use the Ford recommended coolent. The only synthetic I use is in my rearend differential, since I run alot in the cold north and northwest and the normal gear oil will freeze up. I go thru trannys not because of fluids, but mainly because of load weights, The F-550 can and does haul up to 9,000 lbs on the flatbed and the F-350 runs up to 6500 lbs on it's back. A lot of time it's chemical totes which slosh and believe it they can put extra stress on the drive train when the start moving all the liquid around. I do live on the road, I usually adverage about 215,000 miles a year. My F-350 pickup which I pull my Rv with still has it's original tranny an E4OD.

yeah,
i use castrol high mile gtx and a guart of slick 50 in my ranger. the oil gets changed about every 6000 miles. the tranny is oem 5spd. i just recently changed the atf in it,
i put amzoil atf in it. and the rear has amzoil 75/90 in it. i just changed over the tranny and the rear diff to amzoil. i guess they have a higher mileage between change intervals. the motor has castrol/slick 50. the air filther is a k&n reuseable all i do a couple times a year is clean it.
i work at a tranny shop, here in oregon. we have done full amzoil change overs. some people spend about $400.00 on fluids and diff oils. if they do alot of driving. in the long run i guess it would be worth it.

Hmm, really. I have 386 posts and still cannot "post attachments". In other words, I cannot upload photos to my posts from my computer. I have to link it from a hosting site, or link it from my gallery. If you know something I don't, please let me know.

My new SD

I have a 1999 F250 Super Duty with a 5.4 V8, I have 200,300 miles on it. It seems to burn a lot of gas, is this normal?

wait, hang on, I'm confused--which granted doesn't take much these days. But do you mean you put a quart of transmission fluid into your oil reserve?

Why?

That aint normal. If the engine has been properly maintained and the rings, pistons, valves are tight you have other problems. Maybe timeing? or a leak?
