'51 F-8 cab onto '84 E-350 progress

I have up-dated my gallery with some progress pictures. I have commenced the project of putting on my 1951 Ford F-8 cab onto a 1984 Ford E-350/460/C-6/dually chassis.

So far, I am surprised how easy it has gone. The bottoms of the inner fenders have to be trimmed to run along the top of the frame rails. The C-6 "kick-down" linkage will have to bent a little to clear the firewall. Centering the front wheels in the wheelwells will have to be addressed.

I have a tilt column from a '69 Lincoln Mark III that will be going in. I will only need to fabricate an extension to reach the front-mounted steering gearbox.

My plan is to have an "old" heavy duty hauler for transporting my farm tractors and crawler to tractor shows on my 24' gooseneck trailer. My '64 Ford Galaxie 390/4-speed might be transported too from time to time. I think the E-350 dually with 460 will be sufficient with power front disk brakes, power steering, and the modern improvements on the '84 chassis compared to the original F-8 running gear.

Also, I wanted a "street-machine", but not a "low-rider" that isn't dedicated to hauling only. I'll be fabricating a "flair-side" bed with the fenders widened about 8" to cover the duals.

I never knew that playing "Sanford and Son" with old Ford trucks was so much fun!!

I'll be posting progress pictures periodically over the winter.

Looks good! I had forgotten how they mounted the 460's in the vans, that would drive me nuts. So your not going to keep the flatbed? I must say at least your building it on a ford chassis! -4speed

looks pretty good, cutting the back of the cab is nothing really you did a good job. Next time you take it off the trailer let the clutch out slowly so you don't pop-a- wheely and bang your head so we can't even see you behind the wheel.
