I have a 1990 ford e-350 van with a E-40-D trans with overdrive..My question is what is plugged in on top of my rearend(differential housing). It has a two wireplug. The piece is held in by one bolt. The bottom half is a magnet about the size of a thimble.I need to know the name so I can order one as I broke it...thanks rvdsr....

Thats a speed sensor. It sees the reluctor ring on the carrier.

You may be talking about the "ABS" sensor, there are 2 of them on your vehicle. The ABS system uses the one in the rear end to detect wheel lock up, and the one in the speedo cable controls the tranny.

It is an ABS sensor. It detects speed changes at the axle to operate the RABS system.
Your local dealer should have it in stock. The part number should be F3TZ 2L373 A.
