Whats wrong with my horn?

Ok, I was not to sure where to put this, but here goes; When I push my horn it dont go "honk", instead it makes a clicking noise under my dash like by the glove box. The horn did work when I first got the truck but it just stoped one day. Then one day I pushed it and it worked and stoped. Has not worked since and thats been like 2 months ago. I really would like to fix it so that every part on the truck works. I get really mad when stuff dont work like it should.

If the horn is controlled by a relay, and something makes me think it is, the sound you're hearing is the realy closing the power circuit to the horn, but for whatever reason, there's no power getting there....

Well, its exactly a "CLICK" and it sounds like from glove box, so does that mean the relay is under dash? I wonder if it could be a blown fuse? Anybody els got any information that will help a brother out?

The clicking is the relay under the dash meaning your horn circuit seems to be working. A quick voltage check at the horn will let you know if there is power to the horn. if battery voltage is present, change the horn. If battery voltage is not present, change the relay under the dash.

Ok, So its one of the two. Does anybody know exactly where the relay is? How much they are? How can I check the voltage at the horn? Just pull the facing off the steering wheel and take a meter to it?

The horn would be right behind the grille at the front of the truck. disconnect the 1 wire to it and test for voltage while someone is pressing on the horn switch

The horn switch is at the steering column (that works re. clicking under the dash)The horn relay should be under the dash. There is a bank of relays on a square plastic panel not unlike the fuse panel. probably by the glove box.

Do you know exactly what the horn looks like? I have not noticed one, so I'm not exactly sure on what they look like. Do you know wich side of the truck its on passenger, drivers? So first thing I should check is the horn at the grill, then the horn switch in the steering coloum then the relay? Does anybody got any specs on where the relay is under the dash and what it looks like?

Both horns on an 89 are on the Drivers side. If you lay on the ground and look up under the bumper you will see them. there is just one bolt holding them on and 2 wires.
