Hedmans on a 300
What's the deal w/ the hedman headers only workin on 2wd's for the 300. I have a 86 F-150 4x4 w/ a 300 and I don't wanna spend twice the price for the other headers. Why won't these work?

I can't answer your question on the apps for the headmans. But why do you want to run headers if you have split manifolds?

I don't have split manifolds, it was one of the last carbed engines. Ford put injection on the V-8's earlier then the 6, I don't why. So I still got a block of steel for a exhaust manifold.

302 got EFI in 86, 300 followed in 87 and 351 stayed till 88 on most.
BTW, im pretty sure they'll work because the side the exhaust is on, theres nothing really in the way and they should come down over the crossmemeber. im getting a set myself this spring.

That's exactly what I'm thinking, there is nothing there to get in the way, it's all pretty much the same on the exhaust side, no 4x4 pumpkin or drive shaft to get in the way. I don't know??? I usually drag my feet on doing stuff in the winter anyway, so I'll probably wait till you get it done in the spring and you can let me know what the prob. is, if there is one.

I e-mailed Pacesetter and Hedman. Hedman said "sorry these will not work for your application." Pacesetter said "our headers will work w/ your 4x4." So I've heard of people using hedman's but they said no go and Pacesetter said yes and they are both around the same price, so maybe I'll get the Pacesetters.

i have heard the pacesetters "rust" really bad. as long as u get em coated u should be fine. dont forget the hooker super comp headers, but they are pricey.

I didn't even wanna ask Hooker, those are pricey, even if they did work I'd still go w/ the pacesetters. Now where would a guy go to get these coated, or what would I buy, can I use that 1200 degree paint? I've never had to do this before.

They sell at Bomgaars(Farm and Ranch and General Store), it comes in Black or dark Gray. Black would by fine for me and the can costs about $5.50, it says it's for grills and stuff like that.

"Lasted but stunk" As in when I start up the engine it's gonna smell, or when I spray it it's gonna smell, or it leaves a bad finish?

I noticed you put in a cam. How's that workin for ya and did you really need new lifters? I plan on the same cam and don't wanna screw something up, some guy said he used cam on his 300 and it worked good for a year and then ripped a valve out so it fell into the cylinder, when he took it apart he said all the valves were really sharp around the ends, I assume this would be more of a spring problem, b/c the cam only pushes, it doesn't pull back.
