air filter

Had to jump over here for a second. I have this friend who just got his 2004 fx4. He doesn't like the new filteration system on it. I thought it cool how the filter slides in and out! He doesn't like how the air filter tube make a 90' turn and goes into the driver's side fender. Is there a new open air element out already to fit the new f-150 fx4? Thanks horsecop

I talked to an accessories distributor at the SEMA aftermarket show. K&N has on in development. they wanted him to put it on his new truck he outfitted for the show. he had to drive from LA to Vegas for the show. he asked if there were any issues. the comment was there might be a lean condition. MIGHT!!! he replied. no thanks this truck is brand new. .i'm not melting it down across the desert.

so. check out any aftermarket products to make sure there is not a problem with fuel calibration. you may get great mieage for 100 miles.. then

Thanks Rambunctious. I'll pass it on to him. It might not do any good because he's hard headed. Now I'm off to a thread I'm watching. Donaldson or Afe debate. The fella that posted it sounds like he knows what he's talking about with the flow test but the jury is out still. Thanks again.

Thumbs down

Bob Ayers, its is funny that you should mention that because I have seen the dirt that K&N airfilters let through on my fathers old motorcycle and on my Bronco. In dusty conditions my K&N filter left a film of dust on the inside of the hose going to the engine. I honestly dont understand how they have not been sued by someone. They need to improve the micron filtration a lot on the cotton gauze filters. Just for fun take one of their filters and look through it at direct sunlight, my filter actually shows tiny pin holes of light even with a fresh oiling. So be very weiry before installing one of these cotton gauze filters on any motor that will be operating in dusty or even remotely dusty conditions.

Adam, that's funny you mentioned the holes in the K&N filter that
let light through, there is another thread about K&N filters, where
I suggested doing a test, hold a K&N filter up to light, and compare it to an OEM paper filter up to a light!!!
