460 Heads

I have an 89 bronco with a 302 and I'm interested in swapping in a 460 to it.

I'm looking to buy a block and a crank and go from there, doing as much as a I can by myself. More than anything I want the learning experience.

My question is, what kind of heads should I look at getting? I've read on here about D0ve and D1ve heads but to be honest I don't know much about 'em.

Any suggestions or comments?

Also, will a c6 transmission from a 2wd pickup mount up to my t-case? Is it something as simple as putting a different tailshaft on it?

DOVE heads, or D8 and D9, are early rail rocker heads with 75-78cc combustion chambers. D3VE heads ('73-78) are 96cc combustion chambers with pedestal mounted rocker arm assemblies. Which head you use for a stock or nearly stock rebuild should be determined by your pistons to determine compression ratio or vice-versa.

DIVE is the block casting number for '71-78 429/460s.

For the swap you'll need a 460 econoline oil pan, remote oil filter and passenger side truck exhaust manifold or headers.

George meant C8's and C9's, instead of D8's and D9's. D0VE's, C9VE's, and C8VE's are all good street iron heads. They are, for all intents and purposes, identical. Just different casting numbers based on different year of production. C8's were 68, C9's were 69, and D0's were 70 and later.
