torched hole in the front cross member is this right?

I have an 88 350 with the 460. There is a hole torched in the front cross member where the oil filter comes through. It is a very crude cut. Is this factory or what?

ok kill me....once I read the archives I realized people do this to swap in a 460. Next question, how to I tell if this was the original motor that somone took the 90 degree adapter off or a swaped in motor? There is no sticker under the hood.

What's the VIN? If the 8th digit is a G, it was a factory 460.

Next step is to look at the block casting numbers. Not sure where they are off the top of my head. Search the 460 forum for block casting number. If it'a newer block than the 88, you can be sure it was swapped in. If it's a year or two older it doesn't mean much. Sometimes Ford kept the same block design for a couple years at a time.

Other than that, it's pretty tough to tell.

The 8th digit is G so I guess it is original. Wonder why you would do it that way. To each their own I guess. Should a unmolested cross member be put in? How much integrity is lost?

Thanks for the info!
