Ford 6.0L Vs. Dodge's new Cummings

Hi all, I was wondering who has test driven the new Dodge's 2004 Cummings diesel engine yet ? It's supposted to have more HP/Torque than the current 6.0L Ford produces. It's avalible on the 2004 Rams.

Any comments ?

I heard it on my local radio. The announcer said something like "Come test drive the all new 2004 Dodge ram. The Dodge has the most diesel HP, and torque of any small sized pickup." Someone else here said that the 2004 Cummings has like 350 HP ??

As of right now the HP and TQ are the same as the 03's but I know that they are changing for late 04/05 but there has not been a lot of info leaked out yet. Tried to get a Cummins rep to tell me but he said that he could not. O well guess we all will see sooner or later.

That Cummins diesel is capable of twice the output they have it tuned for in the RAM series trucks. Ford and GM keep coming out with all new diesels (and V8s at that) to compete, and what does Dodge do? They just go and turn up the Cummins a little more. I love it. That engine has been in Dodge trucks since I was a small boy, and the competition still can't touch it.

"5.9L High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel engine makes 305 horsepower at 2,900 RPM and 555 pounds-feet of torque at 1,400. " Straight off the Dodge website. Ford 6.0L produces 325hp@3300rpm and 560lbs-ft@2000rpm. As you can see the Dodge produces a hell of a lot of torque just above idle. I do like the Cummins, but I don't like the new Ram look. Nasty IMO. I liked the old body style much better!

It's a good strong engine that produces great low end torque. Why wouldn't someone love the Cummins, because it's not in a Ford? If it was in a Ford I bet there wouldn't be a lot of complaints. The truck may or may not suck, but the engine is strong.

I don't know if it has really occurred to anybody, 'cause it hasn't occured to me till just now, but no matter who makes it, the first year model of anything automotive, especially an engine, will always be improved and outdone by the following year's model. So all the Cummins lovers oughtta be watchin' out, because I've got a feeling that ford will be dominating the 2005 line of trucks. But thats just what I think.

I love the Fords! There engines are strong, but can anyone admit that the Cummins is just as strong if not stronger? A straight 6 vs. a v-8. The only thing it doesn't beat the Ford in is 1/4 mile racing w/ a full load behind it. All I am trying to say is it is impressive. It sure beats the hell out of the chevy in comparison. Facts fellas facts!
