Question Bug Defelector

Considering a bug deflector. Those that have them, can you tell me if they are effective at deflecting bugs or are they mostly for appearance?

Thanks,

Hey Templer - Welcome to FTE.

They don't deflect them little critters from splattering your windshield, but they sure keep the splatters off the hood. Wouldn't have a truck without one. We've got one of the Lund wrap-around deflectors on our F250.

Here in "Luv Bug" country, it's more for not having to scrub every inch of the hood.

The Lund shields definately do look better than the old fashion straight shields though.

Not only does it keep bugs off your hood, but it also keeps rock chips off your hood. I have an AVS bugflector II on my Ranger.

I've seen mine work only a few times. I took it off though cause it was installed wrong, and rubbed paint off the top of my grill, and edge of hood. (just make sure ford doesnr install it if you get one....)

I just installed the Lund Trident and am very pleased because it does not hit the hood!
My last truck I had a regular Lund and that was thinner and rubbed the paint off the hood.

I think so. I had ford install the sheild. I didn't look closely at how it was installed. But on Vet's day, I went to the dunes and I guess with all the vibration, and probably just normal raod vibs it rubbed paint off. I only noticed it, cause I opened the hood to rinse some sand out, and saw the grey of the grill were the paint rubbed. Then when I got home, I took it off, and noticed it rubbed paint off the edge of the hood.

The problem was, instead of ford using self tapping screws, they drilled the holes, and then put some rubber gaskets type things in he holes, and then use regular tight treaded screws to attacth it to the hood.
