First, welcome to FTE!!!!

Any filter would be better than the Fram. But, for preference, first choice would be Motorcraft, second choice would be Wix....

Wix should be fine, but I prefer Motorcraft and the basic Purolator.

The wix should work well. If you want to save some money go get a Napa gold, it's the same thing.

Taking about saving some money...Does anybody know for sure what, if any, difference exists between a NAPA Gold and a NAPA Silver?

The gold filters are better than the silvers. I'm not sure the exact differences, but I always use the gold filters, as they are higher quality. I could probably find out the exact differences if I get some free time.

There are a few differences. The Gold has more paper in it for one. The paper in the gold is made with a type of fiberglass media that picks up smaller particles while the silver is made with the standard paper. The anti-drain back valve is made of nitrile while the gold uses a silicone drain back valve that will withstand higher temperatures. Also the inside seam of the silver is a straight seam where the inside of the gold is a coiled seam which makes for a much stronger inner filter. If you want to know more let me know.

Now you got me curious - how does the NAPA Gold stack up against the Motorcraft FL820S?

Also, how much does the Gold cost?

I checked out the cost of the NAPA Gold filter for my XLT and it was $7.50 compared to the WIX at $6.50 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. I would think that the cost should be just the opposite if they are basically the same internal construction. I bought the WIX. I just found a dozen Motorcraft filters at Walmart for $2.77 each.

I cant remember where I found this......but I believe the silver is a Champion product.

WIX and NAPA Gold are the same thing, made by the same people, same factory, same line, diffferent paint and packaging.
The prices here between NAPA and OReillys flip flop all the time for the filter.
Go with whoever has the cheaper if it concerns you, but trust the only difference is the amount of profit they are clearing.

The MC is a Purolater. I prefer the WIX/NAPA
