351 W Balancer and Flywheel question

I have a 351 W out of a 96 E series Van that I am going to build and want to use a T5 with it.The engine came to me with no balancer on it and no flywheel or flexplate so I have no clue what to use.

The problem I have is what flywheel and balancer do I use in order to use a T5?

The engine is going into a Mark 1 Capri Zakspeed Replica and smog is not applicable so any other budget performance tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help on this one I greatly appreciate it. Ian.

28 oz balancer and flywheel would do the trick. Any 351 or any pre 1982 302 flexplate/flywheel later

I heard today that in 95 they changed the mainseal and crank on the 351 and the 95-up are not compatable with the 94-older

think this is correct?

I need to find a flywheel for a 351 going to a 4 speed I belive I need a 28.8 oz but i'm not sure. I've noticed that I can probably use a 302 one as long as it's old enough.

a wrecking yard has one from '94 so i'm going tomorrow to see if it'll fit.

I have never heard that not to say your wrong but I don't think their is any difference. Ford went to a one piece seal way before 95 somewhere around 80-81+/- they went from a two piece rear main seal to a one, either way the flywheels work on either crank. If you try putting an 82 up 302 flywheel on your 351 your gonna get a vibration that will not go away and slowly begin to wear your engine down. later

The main seal changeover was on the '83 and up blocks (E3). As someone else said, this does not affect the flywheel.

You can use any 157 tooth Pre-'81 flywheel from a 302, any 351W flywheel, have a machine shop balance a 1981 and up 302 flywheel to 28.2 oz, or buy a new piece from Ford such as the FRPP billet steel flywheel, part # M-6375-A302.
