Rodding out a radiator

Can someone tell me what's involved when a radiator shop rods out a radiator? I know that's a way that the radiator is cleaned, but I was curious as to what it intails.

They un-solder the tanks, then push a rod through the tubes to clean the gunk out. They then re-solder the tanks on. I have to do this ever year or so on my older vehicles and doesn't cost much. I think my shop charges $40 or so.
