1991 F-150 5.8L and glass packs
I have always wanted a rich sounding truck and have tried to get it by adding a 12 inch glass pack in place of the std. muffler. It really hasn't accomplished very much. The shop told me that the catalytic converter on the Ford is very muffling in itself and that you could probably run a straight pipe back from the cat and not get that much more sound. I don't want the sound to be obnoxious, just rich and full. Any help is very much appreciated.

I have a 90 F-150 5.8L that had custom exhaust on it when I bought it in 94- a "Y" pipe coming of the cat, then dummy duals with glasspacks going out the sides. It made WAY too little noise for me. I didn't want anything that would rattle my ears or those around me, but I wanted a nice, mellow rumble to follow me wherever I went. I did what your man suggested- I ran straight pipe from the cat back (okay, I kept the "Y" in there so I could pretend like I had real duals)and stuck on a couple of 5x12" angle cut tips coming out the back. It sounds great- not near enough to annoy anyone, but just enough to let you know when your engine is running.

I have an 85 F150 5.0 with 36 inch Glass Packs and it is nice nice nice especaily under overpasses and it has a nice pop pop pop when it rev's down. It's not loud enought to make the neighbors hate me either. It sound alot more truck like than the FloMasters or anything like that.
