Power Steering Fluid

I was hoping some of you experts out there could respond to this. I was told by NAPA that Type 'F" transmission fluid should not be used in my new A1 Cardone remanufactured steering gearbox (Bendix style). This is installed in my 1967 Ford F250. The power steering pump dipstick reads, "USE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID") After the thing failed twice, I suspected he was right. However, my mechanic friend said he never heard of such a thing.
Thanks,

I would use what the NAPA guys recommend, they seem to know what to use with their rebuilder (A1 Cardone). It depends on the seals used and the Bendix box has always been weak in that department.

Most if not all rebuilt steering boxes use seals that are not compatible with Type F.
